Coming into the 2022 AFT season, there’s no doubt that Jared Mees was one of the hands down favorites. A target was squarely on his back, but that’s not an unfamiliar place for Mees. However, throughout the season, Mees just found a way. His speed and ability to secure results week after week continued to wear down the opposition and widen the gap back to his peers. Mees made very few mistakes and came into the final round of the season with a comfortable points lead, needing to just finish to capture his seventh title.
Mees Knows How to Win Races
His accolades speak for themselves, and his race craft has bested challengers round after round. When the dust settled after Volusia Race I, Mees positioned himself perfectly. He just needed to finish in Race II to secure his championship. His three main event wins along with nine podiums finishes broadened the gap to the rest of the class. In true Mees fashion, he could have just set the cruise control, but instead he battled his way to 3rd place securing his seventh championship in the final race of the season.
2022 was a sharp contrast to last year, when coming into the season finale Mees and his teammate Bauman were separated by just a few points. Mees made sure to put an exclamation point on this season, telling the rest of the AFT paddock that he’s still the man to beat.
Another year and another championship — another question mark — is there anyone who can beat Jared Mees?
