Video Description BELL BUILT | DOWNHILL OVERVIEW
Jill Kintner and Bryn Atkinson introduce the Downhill Category for the 2013 Bell Built campaign.
You're not on a bike to pose in front of the coffee shop. You're on a bike to ride. Rain or shine—bad roads be damned. You're committed. Just like the Gage—Classics-born, pro-proven and every ounce a Bell.
Combining a series of hair-raising, timed, technical descents with untimed but challenging climbing segments, the 2012 Bell Super Enduro was a first-of-its-kind mountain bike race in the US.
Borrowing on the European phenomenon of multi-stage enduro events, the race was part of the third annual Santa Cruz Mountain Bike Festival in Aptos, Calif.
Held on the crest of mountains between Silicon Valley and Santa Cruz the race showcased the amazing trails of the Soquel Demonstration State Forest and featured six stages--three untimed climbs and three timed runs on all-mountain-style descents.
Though elapsed racing time was less than 30 minutes for each racer, total ride time was in the five hour range, demanding the fitness and stamina to complete some 7,000 feet of climbing, as well as the technical riding skills to rail the long descents.
21 Helmets Art Show -- Portland, Oregon
Motorcycle evangelist Thor Drake is at it again, taking art and motorcycle culture in new, unexpected directions. The curator of the One Motorcycle Show in Portland, Drake's take on "custom" has little to do with $30,000 paint jobs and chrome overdose, and everything to do with thrift, creativity and expression. The 21 Helmets Art Show iterated this theme pairing 21 artists from the Northwest with blank, white Bell Custom 500 helmets as the canvas. The results are as varied and interesting as the artists who made them.
Bell Rider Matthew Slaven talks about the Bell-backed Oregon Super D Series during the 2011 series opener in Hood River. This emerging form of mountain bike racing requires some pedaling power and handling finesse in a long, mostly downhill format. Though it's accessible to almost anyone, those who master it posses a combination of serious cardio conditioning as well as gravity acumen.
