TAG Fit System
Bell’s next-generation Twin Axis Gear™ (TAG) fit system adjusts to the head on two axes—circumferentially as standard fit systems do, but also horizontally to better accommodate differences in the up/down position of the occipital lobe.
Exclusively for the Volt, Bell engineers created an airflow matrix that mixes the deeply sculpted Channeled Ventilation ducts with specially designed constriction channels that use the Venturi Effect to increase airflow rates.
Woven with real silver fibers, X-Static™ Padding is a quick-drying material that inhibits growth of odor-causing bacteria and fungi while keeping you cooler than standard comfort pads.
This is a great fitting helmet. However, it does not seem to stand up to usage very well. I have had mine for a few years, and the side strap has snapped. No crashes or any negligence, the strap just seemed to have aged (hardened) and broke. There again, great fitting helmet, but not worth my money if it is going to break without me hitting the pavement!
The fit of this helmet was excellent, in the summer or in the winter, with the TAB was easy to switch 'modes' to allow for extra head gear. It stayed comfortably snug on my head at all speeds - no ridng up on my forehead like my previous helmet. Best of all, when I had an (unfortunate) opportunity to 'road test' the helmet, I came away with a fractured pelvis, but only a mild scrape on my head - the helmet had numerous dents in the outer shell and the inner shell cracked in a couple of places. My hip is healing well and I'm getting ready to ride again with a new Volt helmet.
All I can say is that this is a very very nice helmet. My first mountain bike helmet was the Bell Sweep. When I built up my new bike, I bought a new helmet to go with it, the Bell Volt. When I picked it out in the store, first of all I got it on sale, I would not have ever ever paid that much for the helmet, but there was something about it that made me get it. It was so comfortable, unlike the sweep where your hair would stick out the top of it, with this helmet that did not happen. The design was crisper then the sweep, it looked cooler. It is a tad bit heavier than the sweep, at least I think so. Just last weekend, I was group riding for the first time, and I was going really fast through some trees. One of them hit my shoulder and threw me off my bike at full force. The way that this helmet is engineered is unbelievable, it is so strong, it is ridiculous. It cracked in 6 different places but the helmet was still intact. It was amazing how well the helmet withstood the impact, simply amazing! I am for sure going to get another one, and maybe the store manager will sell me the new one for what I paid for the old one, $115.
I'm a female mtb and roady with a 'feminine' sized head - yes, it's small. But the Volt doesn't look ridiculously oversized on my pin-head. Priced well for a great fit and look - so much that I've got one for the road and one for the mtb. Will certainly be going back for another Volt when the time comes.
I was on a downhill coming around a small turn and hit a pothole. I lost control and went right over the bike. The first thing that hit the pavement was my head. It was a full impact hit to the right center front of my skull. There is no doubt in my mind that I would have been in the hospital or worse had I not been wearing a helmet. Other than a lot of road rash, stiff neck and shoulders I was able to finish my ride. I immediately went down to my bike shop and got another one. Took it home and stared at it in amazement. It could have been so much worse.
Fit is great, looks great, does it's job.
As soon as I tried it on I immediately bought it. Lightest, most comfortable helmet I've ever worn. Last Wednesday I had a run-in with a large SUV and ended up in a pile in the middle of the intersection. I landed on the side of my head and shoulder when I hit. The helmet is cracked up the side and scraped up pretty bad. I'm just glad that damage is on the helmet and not my head. I'll be going to pick up a replacement tomorrow... maybe I'll see if they sell them in neon yellow. :)
This helmet is very nice:))
