All I can say is that this is a very very nice helmet. My first mountain bike helmet was the Bell Sweep. When I built up my new bike, I bought a new helmet to go with it, the Bell Volt. When I picked it out in the store, first of all I got it on sale, I would not have ever ever paid that much for the helmet, but there was something about it that made me get it. It was so comfortable, unlike the sweep where your hair would stick out the top of it, with this helmet that did not happen. The design was crisper then the sweep, it looked cooler. It is a tad bit heavier than the sweep, at least I think so. Just last weekend, I was group riding for the first time, and I was going really fast through some trees. One of them hit my shoulder and threw me off my bike at full force. The way that this helmet is engineered is unbelievable, it is so strong, it is ridiculous. It cracked in 6 different places but the helmet was still intact. It was amazing how well the helmet withstood the impact, simply amazing! I am for sure going to get another one, and maybe the store manager will sell me the new one for what I paid for the old one, $115.
I'm a female mtb and roady with a 'feminine' sized head - yes, it's small. But the Volt doesn't look ridiculously oversized on my pin-head. Priced well for a great fit and look - so much that I've got one for the road and one for the mtb. Will certainly be going back for another Volt when the time comes.
I was on a downhill coming around a small turn and hit a pothole. I lost control and went right over the bike. The first thing that hit the pavement was my head. It was a full impact hit to the right center front of my skull. There is no doubt in my mind that I would have been in the hospital or worse had I not been wearing a helmet. Other than a lot of road rash, stiff neck and shoulders I was able to finish my ride. I immediately went down to my bike shop and got another one. Took it home and stared at it in amazement. It could have been so much worse.
Fit is great, looks great, does it's job.
As soon as I tried it on I immediately bought it. Lightest,most comfortable helmet I've ever worn. Last Wednesday I had a run-in with a large SUV and ended up in a pile in the middle of the intersection. I landed on the side of my head and shoulder when I hit. The helmet is cracked up the side and scraped up pretty bad. I'm just glad that damage is on the helmet and not my head. I'll be going to pick up a replacement tomorrow... maybe I'll see if they sell them in neon yellow. :)
